FAQ

WHAT IS EthAtlanta?

EthAtlanta is an event for blockchain enthusiasts and developers to work on real use-cases, driven by Atlanta's enterprise community. The event will also include talks and workshops given by top blockchain influencers and experts. The purpose is to bridge the fringe developer ecosystem with the enterprise and best-in-class tooling to produce working proofs-of-concept in a single weekend.

Is the grand prize actually $10,000?!

Yes.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone! EthAtlanta is an inclusive event and welcomes anyone from all backgrounds and skillsets to join the fun. Priority will be given based on interest from the Ethereum community when the organizers of the hackathon curate teams; if you have a team you want to work with, you are welcome to join the event with your existing team.

Non-technical contributors are welcome to participate as well. If you have something you think you can add to the ecosystem – whether it's a knack for crafting white papers or an entrepreneurial vision – we welcome your talents and will help you find the team during event registration on Friday afternoon.

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN BE ON A TEAM?

Teams curated by the organizers of the hackathon will typically consist of three members where possible: two developers (at least one of which who has proven blockchain experience) and one designer. Participants registering as a team should not be larger than five members. Teams larger than five will be ineligible to win prizes.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A TEAM?

Register as an individual and the organizers of the hackathon will work to introduce you to a team of three that will benefit from your skillset.

WHAT IF I'VE NEVER PARTICIPATED IN A HACKATHON BEFORE?

Come anyway! You never know what you might build. Feel free to ask us any questions- we are happy to help.

CAN I START WORKING ON MY PROJECT BEFORE THE HACKATHON?

No. Pre-existing projects will not be considered for prizes. You may, however, build a new feature for an existing project that is unique and standalone. Judges will make the final decision on whether a project will qualify for prize consideration.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Bring a laptop. We will provide conference rooms and whiteboard tables for planning, desks, chairs, and a strong WiFi connection.

What is Provide? How do I use it?

Provide is an enterprise-class, network-agnostic blockchain platform (PaaS) that can power decentralized business on a global scale. The platform makes provisioning blockchain infrastructure a turnkey experience and can be leveraged to rapidly bootstrap new networks and build and consume dApps using familiar tooling.

Developers will have unfettered access to the Provide platform during the hackathon; while using the platform is not required to participate, it will give teams a competitive advantage.

HOW DOES JUDGING WORK?

Judges will score your project based on three categories:

  • Utility - is it useful? is it novel? does it actually need blockchain? will it attract mainstream adopters?

  • Design - is it beautiful? is it intuitive?

  • Quality - does it work? is it secure?

What are the prizes?

EthAtlanta is offering a massive $10,000 grand prize to the winning hackathon project, as determined by our panel of judges. The second and third place projects will also finish "in-the-money."

What if I don't live in Atlanta?

Our accommodations partners are offering special group rates for EthAtlanta attendees. Use the appropriate promo code (or click a link to book from the accommodations section of our website) and you will be able to book a very affordable room just minutes from the venue.

IS FOOD PROVIDED?

Certain meals throughout the course of the weekend will be catered and free of charge to participants. There will also be food trucks available outside the venue. Check the schedule for more details.
